My Story

Hi, Emma here. I would like to share my personal story on Gawad Pag-asa. It was 2008 when it became very clear that I wanted to start a Non Governmental Organization (NGO) to help poor and needy children and families. So ever since then, I aligned myself with the industry – I worked in an International NGO working with the poorest of the poor to learn all the skills I need and to sharpen myself. I’m thinking that when I already have the financial capacity, I would embark on this journey of starting a NGO. In 2014 however, I attended a Forum that made me realize that I don’t have to wait all my life until I have everything that I need to set up the NGO. In 2015, I took the challenge of starting the NGO and shared first to close friends and families. Little by little, the puzzle pieces began to fit: we found the founders and co-founders, the advisers and the leaders who expressed their commitment to be with us until our vision becomes a reality. Ever since then, I never looked back. I personally commit my life to our cause and see to it that I will take massive actions to give hope, transform, and sustain the community that we are going to build for the underprivileged.

I want to leave you with this powerful quote from Nelson Mandela. Let’s change the world together, one action at a time.
